Recent patent application filing statistics as released by the Indian patent office confirm that IP Protection or Patent Filing Regime is on the rise in India.

  • Before the year 2014, 10 to 20 thousand patent applications were received by the Indian patent office. However, post-2017, the filing trends see an upward rise---47854 in 2017-18, 50659 in 2018-19, 56267 in 2019-20, 58503 in 2020-21, 66460 in 2021-22 patents were filed in India. Filings of 2021-2022 have seen a 50% increase from the filings of 2014-2015.

  • According to the World Intellectual Property Office or WIPO's Global Innovation Index (GII) 2023 rankings, India is ranked 40th out of 132 countries for patent filing. This is a 6 positions improvement from 2021 when India was ranked 46th, and 41 positions huge leap from 2015 when it was ranked 81st.

  • These trends will further go up, thanks to the government's push for initiatives such as "Make In India", "Startup India", "Aatamnirbhar Bharat", etc.

Government Job Opportunities

Public Sector Job Opportunities

India's Economy is Booming At a Very Past Pace

  • The United States has been the highest patent application filer so far, and according to CRI's report, 27.7% of jobs in the US come from Intellectual property-intensive industries, which contributes 38.2% of the US GDP.

  • India's economy is increasing rapidly and is poised to be one of the largest economies in the coming years.

  • With the increase in the economy and increase in IP awareness, the IP industry in India is sure to grow proportionally.

IP Industry Means Opportunities Beyond Borders

  • Patent protection is a global activity. Apart from local operations, there is a lot of work connected to worldwide IP filing, prosecution, enforcement, etc. For which, people have to depend on local IP professionals.

  • Post Covid, with the advancement of technology and communication tools such as ZOOM, G-Meet, MS Teams, the global market is open for skilled people. Employers have started accepting remote/distributed work culture--if you have skills, employers won't hesitate to hire you even if you are located away.

  • LinkedIn and other job platforms are full of patent job postings open for remote candidates.
